Welcome to “take 3”

Tips, techniques and tidbits to help you on your spiritual journey in under 3 minutes.

Ancient yogis understood the importance of timing and ratios in breathe training and devised ways to measure breath way before the invention of clocks.

Each time unit was called a matra.

The following physical actions will provide a guideline for understanding the motion of matra. each denote one matra:

  • twinkling of an eye
  • time taken to pronounce a short vowel
  • time necessary for touching one’s knee brace followed by a clap time occupied by one normal respiration
  • Time taken up in the pronunciation of the secret symbol OM

As pranayama training was always in part by a guru for to a disciple the precise balance could be achieved under actual guidance. In modern time despite the invention of clocks the measuring of inhalation exhalation and retention remains a somewhat perplexing issue watching a clock or even mentally counting can be a distraction while practicing. The best way to measure breath is with the aid of the 24th syllable Gayatri mantra. One repetition of Gayatri mantra provides the proper timing for the inhalation and to Gaia tree Montrose for the exhalation the guy tree is an ideal unit for pranayama but in case one is unable to chat it in one inhalation sure a mattress or a simple count may be employed keeping them uniform.

We have clocks but the intrusion of having to keep an eye on the time can be mentally distracting as can having to count in your mind.

This is were breathing apps come in handy while practice pranayama or just setting aside time for yourself to sit, relax and breath.

Very simple interface, but lets you customize everything you might want to customize like lengths for inhalation, exhalations and holds. A clean, wellll-designed interface.  All the breathing cycle here is visualized so it would be easier for you to do exercises. You can choose the length of each session in the settings – from one minute to one hour. There is a counter for breathing cycles. Moreover, you can adjust the length of inhaling and exhaling.
